Job Type:
Flash, Website Design
Description:

Netfirms Web Hosting for Small Business

We are looking for a web designer to provide a custom template set for our
ProStores web store. We will be designing a complete new look with an imbedded
Flash header, and a serious upgrade from the default pro-stores catalog
navigation. We also will be changing the basic store navigation to include new
tabs and pages. See www.prostores.com for documentation.
Some of the functionality described below may need to be modified due to
prosore's limitations. If so, we will attempt to achieve a similar look and
feel.
Flash Header:
We will provide you with bitmap images of the basic header design, along with
the source images we use to create the design. There will be a number of
animated objects within the header:
First, our logo(and mascot)will be animated: Our mascot is a character made out
of a spring that will move with antics similar to the paperclip character in MS
Office. There will also be two words in our logo that will move back and forth
periodically beside the mascot. When the page opens, before the rest of the
header appears, he will jump out onto the screen, and then the words will move
in, and bump him into place.
Second, to the right of the logo, there will be a realistic collage
incorporating a number of industrial / professional tools. These include a
RIDGID SeeSnake (see Ridgid.com for an image) with drum turning; An over-exposed
spotlight facing the user with beams gently radiating from it; A man in a
welding mask with sparks flying from the welder (the man does not need to move),
A pipe wrench that opens and closes, and a press tool whose jaws articulate.
Catalog Navigation:
The default catalog navigation in pro-stores is EXTREMELY clunky for our
application. We provide tools and equipment to a number of industry groups that
are unrelated to one another, as well as products for home. Some of these
products have a huge selection depth of options. The SeeSnake mentioned above,
for instance, has over 50 different versions available, as well as individual
components and optional equipment.
I'm not sure how many subcategory levels pro-stores will support, but we will
need to design a category pane that will accomodate all of the available levels
of subcategories in a vertical pane, without indents, and where the
subcategories are hidden when viewing categories at a higher level. There will
be a category/search pane on the left of the page. This pane will incorporate a
vertical scroll bar. The header will be, "choose your industry group"
If this header is clicked, the customer will return to the top level. When the
customer chooses an industry group, say "plumbing and pipe fitting"
for example, That name will appear in the header underneath "choose your
industry group". Clicking this name in the header will now return the
customer to this screen. As the customer drills down, each consecutive
subcategory will be listed in the header underneath the previous one. In this
way, the customer will at any time be able to return to whatever level they
prefer with only one click.
The main page, all information pages, category search page, and product detail
page will all be identical. The format will not change until the customer moves
to the checkout page. There will be three basic components: The header, the
search/category pane on the left, the footer, and pane on the right whose
content will change dependent on where they are. It will display all page
content, search results, category/subcategory content (which may be unique to
the category/subcategory), product lists, and product details. In essence,
these will be individual pages displayed within a window on the main page.
There will be a few other modifications that are relatively small.
PLEASE NOTE. The winning bidder will be able to provide us with a portfolio
containing similar flash embedded pages, and at least one example of a
pro-stores site. In both cases, we will need references. ALSO: For budget
reasons, we may need to do this job in stages. Our most pressing need is to fix
our catalog navigation problem. If you would like to enter a bid for a portion
of the project, (say, the site navigation, or the flash header) then please do
so, and we will consider that as an option.
