Website Design
Description:

Studio20Productions is looking for a web developer/designer/programmer to
develop a new book trading website. The details of the website are below. Please
look over them carefully to see if you would be right for the position. This
would be an ongoing position, with possible profit sharing potential.
We are looking for a freelance designer(s) to work with us in coming up with the
site from start to finish. We currently have a working idea of how the website
will function, but simply need a programmer to put our idea and description into
a functioning final product to be put on the internet. Compensation is
negotiable and the majority, if not all, of the work will be done remotely.
Be SURE to look over the overall description of the site below before you email
us to inquire about the position. Please send us an example of a project or two
that you have been involved with that pertains to the position.
*This would be perfect for someone who has done an e-commerce site similar to
what we're looking for and will simply modify the existing code*

HOW THE SITE WILL FUNCTION
We are looking to build an online book trading site. This means that we as a
company will not be buying and selling books. We simply will be connecting
buyers and sellers of books, similar to an amazon.com or ebay.com without the
auctioning. Books are sold for a set price.
The overall process of how the site will function is this.
1. A user will create a profile on the site that will include all contact info
etc.
2. The user will then ‘sell a book now’. This will take them to a webform that
will ask them the information about the book (title, author, edition, and most
importantly ISBN number). This ISBN number will be used by the website to
automatically look up information about the book. The user will also include the
price they want to list the book for as well as the condition that the book is
in. There will also be a $5 flat rate shipping addition to cover shipping costs,
or the ISBN number can be used to know the weight of the book and thus calculate
the shipping costs. Whichever way is more plausible. Once all needed info is
filled out the user clicks ‘list this book’ and the book is automatically added
to the online database of books, thus making it searchable by interested buyers.
3. Interested buyers, also with profiles on the site, will use a search box to
search for books they might be interested in. For example, a user might type
‘economics 101 by John Doe’. This will cause the site to search through the
database of currently listed books and show the search results of matching books
for sale. Obviously if no books match the criteria of the search, then the
search will result in ‘no books found.’ Or ‘Modify your search’.
4. The interested buyer, once seeing the book that they want would click ‘buy
now’ and pay for the book via paypal.com.
5. The Buyer's Payment would be sent to the original seller’s paypal account,
minus 10% of the selling price, which would automatically be transferred to a
separate paypal account belonging to our company. An automated email would also
be sent to both the seller and our company to confirm that the book has been
sold. On this email would be the book info, the seller’s info, the buyer’s info,
etc along with instructions on how to ship the book, and the deadline for
shipping the book.
6. At this point the seller would ship the book to the shipping address noted in
the automated email that was received and the buyer would receive the book.
How to prevent technical and service problems with the site
1. If a seller is scamming people and not actually shipping books to paid buyers
paypal can be notified by the buyer in order to gain a refund. For this reason
we feel that paypal would be the only logical way to accept payment.
2. To prevent potential scammers from continued fraud our company would like to
have some way to keep track of these scammers.
a. For example, buyers who have been victims of scammers could email the
scammer’s info to our company and we could deal with it from there. However this
would be the least desirable way for our company to deal with such issues
b. A much better way would be to utilize some kind of customer feedback that
would be incorporated into each seller/buyers profile. This would not
necessarily need to be the same score system that ebay has, rather it could be a
simple message board linked to each users profile that allows other users that
were involved in transactions with the seller to write a message regarding their
experience. When someone was looking to buy a book from a seller, they would
look through that seller’s message board to look for warning signs of a possible
scammer. Once the traffic and sales on the website pickup we could incorporate a
scoring system such as ebay’s.
