I need a shell website that has a similar set of functionality to www.about.com, but that is far more limited in terms of the number of guide areas: the site will have only about 5 to 9 separate guide areas, compared to the hundreds/thousands of guides in about.com. Purpose of website The key purpose of the website will be to allow a few subject matter experts to create content and get it indexed by the search engines in order to generate advertising revenue from sponsored ads, and to provide links to my osCommerce based website (which sells publications related to the content areas). The website will be installed in one or more subdomains of my main osCommerce site. The key requirements for this project are: 1. The system must be accessible to search engines 2. The management of the data must be very simple with only limited html experience, if any, needed. 3. There should be some consideration given to how to maintain and check the links both to other articles within the system, and to external articles. 4. The system should be maintainable without the need for a programmer. 5. A simple and fast end-user interface is critical (the logical structure of the interface will be similar to about.com but with a different look and feel. 6. Use of open source software only. 7. I am not looking for any graphic design expertise as the logo is already designed. The key requirements for the developer are: 1. An in-depth understanding of the various technologies that underly the about dot com website, and related forums,blogs,advertiser placements, etc. 2. Experience in developing similar systems 3. Use of tools (if necessary) that are compatible with my exisiting website (php, MySQL, Dreamweaver). 4. An understanding of SEO How to respond In order to demonstrate you have an in-depth understanding of the features that are underlying the about dot com website, please: 1. submit a list of the key features you see would be needed to implement a similar system. 2. write a short (two or three sentence) description of how each feature would work, the technology required, and why you think they are important to the project. 3. A brief discussion of projects similar to this one that you have already successfully implemented. 4. Your hourly rate This pre-discussion will give me an idea of your level of understanding of the project and of your communication skills. Then we can follow up with a longer discussion about the size and scope of the project.
