Description: |
I'm looking for a website designer/programmer (or design team) to help me improve my website and take it to the next level. The site is www.thepokerproject.com. You'll be responsible for the day to day (more like week to week, as there isn't a lot) tasks of keeping the site running smooth. You'll also be responsible for programming and designing a variety of improvement into the site. The initial improvements I wish to add are split into three phases as outlined below. And finally you'll be responsible for search engine optimization of the site. I can pay $500 a month. Instead of bidding different amounts, please bid $500 and tell me how many hours per month you can allocate to my site for that amount. Also, tell me how many hours you think it'll take you to complete phase one of the improvements. If it ends up taking you more or less time to complete phase one, that's fine. I just want an approximation to help me in choosing the right person for the position. I would appreciate any samples of your work you can show me. I require quality work first and foremost, and will not necessarily choose the designer/programmer who offers to work the most hours. I'll be giving strong preference to those who are already rated high on getafreelancer.com. The Site as it is now: The Poker Project is a site for poker players. Users can read about, learn about, and discuss poker at my site. They do not play at my site. I send them to other sites where they can play. Right now the site has 4 main sections: forums (phpBB2): Players can discuss all forms of poker here. Rules: Players can learn the rules of many popular variations of poker here. Strategy: Players can read articles (currently only 1, as this section is relatively new), and they can purchase poker books (through my affiliate arrangement with amazon.com). Where to Play: Players can read user reviews of all the major online poker sites, and may themselves rate/review each site. There is also a links section (running a reciprocal link script) and a site newsletter. There's a backend admin panel which allows me to send newsletters out to all who entered their emails. I can also approve/disapprove links through the admin panel, and I can alter which banners are shown on the site and how many times. Advertisers are able to login and check statistics on how many times their banners have been shown. The admin panel will need to be modified - possibly thrown out all together for something better. There are many links throughout the site to different online poker rooms. The goal of the site is to earn money by selling advertising space to these poker sites, as well as by participating in their individual affiliate programs. Right now the site isn't making much, but I hope to change that by vastly improving it. The site as I want it to be (in three phases): Phase I Improvements: I would like a site overhaul, a face lift of sorts. I want something that duplicates library.thebookforum.com , as far as look and feel is concerned. Their site is primarily run by a script called Censura, which is the same thing I want for my site. I recently installed the script on my site, but it's yet to be configured, and is, at this moment, not visible. It'll be one of your tasks to configure the script to look/act like it does at www.thebookforum.com. This will require altering their templates. I believe library.thebookforum.com had to alter about 65 different templates to get it to work as it does now. Also, my site used to have a much higher page rank throughout then it does now (I had the site redesigned a few months back), and thus my search engine rankings have dropped considerably. I need those rankings to be improved again. You'd be responsible for optimizing all the pages - I would need the google page rank for each page to be at least as high as they used to be. I can email or post a list of what each page rank was at before if you like. You'll also need to make sure that the pages produced by Censura are able to be spidered by search engine robots. There are some instructions within the bulletin boards of Censura's help forum that discuss how to accomplish this. forums: The forums are fine, and can stay the way they are for now. rules: I have another 40 or so pages of rules already written out that simply need to be added to the site. This would be one of your first tasks (I would send you the .txt files, and you would do the rest). I also want to truncate the current rules pages. Each variation of poker currently takes up 3 .php pages, and I would like each to only use 1 page. Strategy: I'll be sending you articles in .txt format periodically that simply need to be added to the site. Or you can design a backend administration panel whereas I can automatically add articles (so long as doing so doesn't in any way negatively affect the page rank of my site's pages). Where to Play: As I've said before, I've installed a new script called Censura, by incursio, inc. It is a rating script similar to the current script (5 star review, by bandley3.com) running, but is a lot more powerful and contains a lot more features. I need to have all the information from the currently running script transferred to the new script. This is probably a manual process that is easy if not tedious. I'd like to then have Censura set up so a representative from each of the poker sites displayed in this section can login and alter the information held within automatically without me having to go in and do it for them. For example, if Poker Stars has some new promotions for the month of January, then a representative from Poker Stars can login and add them easily without me ever having to do anything. One of your first tasks will be to customize the Censura script to look and operate similar to library.thebookforum.com. I'm not sure how much of this will be a programming task. It's probably more a task of reading about and understanding the script, and then working with it to get the desired results. You'll probably have to alter approximately 65 templates. This is something I'm not particularly good at, or I'd do it myself. You'll also need to make it so that the pages it produces are search engine friendly - there are some instructions on the incursio.com message boards on how to do this. Add a new section to the site called Player Reviews - it'll be like the Where to Play section and also use the same Censura script. Users will be able to look up poker players by their online nicknames. They'll then be able to read reviews of the players, as well as write their own reviews. Censura can do all of this - it simply needs to be customized and setup correctly. Install a form-mail program so users can fill out a form to send email to me as opposed to clicking on my email address, as users currently do. Hopefully this will help reduce the amount of spam I receive. Phase II Improvements: Design a new logo that is memorable and unique. It needs to separate thepokerproject.com from the myriad of other poker sites on the internet. It should also illustrate the key idea of what thepokerproject.com is - a database of all things poker. If you are lacking in the graphic design department, I can outsource this to another designer - it wouldn't be a big deal. Setup the articles section of the website (within the strategy section) to also use Cesura, so that users can rate/review articles, and also post articles of their own. Add a new section called Poker Affiliates - it'll be like the Where to Play section and also use the same Censura script. Users will be able to read reviews and rate/review each affiliate program just as they can read reviews and rate/review any poker site now. All of this will be done with Censura. Your job will be to set it up to run properly. I might also need you to visit each poker site and obtain the initial information that describes each site's affiliate programs. Ideally, however, the sites themselves could login and describe their own affiliate programs. I believe Censura can do all of this. I'll go into even more detail about how I want Censura to operate once I choose a designer/programmer. You should get a pretty good idea by looking at library.thebookforum.com and comparing it to the default demo version of Censura which you can see at http://www.incursio.com/products/censura/demo/. I can go into more detail now if you so desire. Just ask. Either find and install or create and install a script that mimics Google Adwords. Advertisers should be able to login and bid on ad space that I have available. The main differences between Google Adwords and what I need are that advertisers will bid on a CPM scale instead of CPC, advertisers will be able to choose between posting banners and text ads, and the ad space won't be split up based on keywords, but instead by the different sections of my site. For example, an advertiser might choose to bid on ad space within the poker rules section of my site but no where else. Phase III improvements: Clone recpoker.com. Their site allows visitors to read posts found within the rec.gambling.poker newsgroup. They can also add their own posts, and search through the posts. I'd like a section of my site to allow visitors to do the same. The search capabilities will need to be modified and improved, as I find their search capabilities to be a bit lacking. Clone the tournament directory found at pokerpages.com, seen here: http://www.pokerpages.com/tournament/index.htm Clone the ring game finder and tournament finder at pokerpages.com, seen here: http://www.pokerpages.com/online/ringgame/index.htm, and here: http://www.pokerpages.com/online/tournament/index.htm Clone pokerpulse.com - Take a look at pokerpulse.com. Their site automatically gathers data from all the major poker sites and displays the data to it's visitors in easy to follow tables. It gathers data such as how many people are playing at each site at any moment, how many tournaments are running, how many hold'em games are running, ect... I'd like a section of my site to do the same. Clone the poker calculators found at www.cardplayer.com - seen here: http://www.cardplayer.com/poker_odds/ Clone the news section of poker.net, found here: http://www.poker.net/headlines/news/default.htm. Basically, their site seems to automatically search for and repost news articles dealing with poker. It might be using some sort of newfeed. I'd like it if you can try to figure out how they're getting the results they're getting, and duplicate it. Add a new section called Poker Software - it'll be liked the Where to Play section and also use Censura. Add a new section called Brick and Mortar Poker Rooms - it'll also be like the Where to Play section and use Censura. Add a new Gold Member section of the site, where users can pay to see special information. This section will be run by a script you'd need to program that would automatically mine data about online poker players from the major poker sites. The script would need to calculate results from that data and then display the results in an easily understandable fashion. Basically, a user should be able to search for a player, and then see information about the player such as how often he sees the flop, how often he folds to a preflop raise, ect... I'll go into much more detail about this script once phase I and phase II are completed. --------------------- In addition to completing the three phases, you'll be responsible for the day to day stuff. There isn't much to do, but you should periodically insure that all outbound links are active, and add any new material that I send to you (new articles, ect...). You would also need to update the affiliate listings once a month. To do this, you'd visit each poker site and read what about their monthly promotions, ect..., and update the site as necessary. You might be able to circumvent most all of this if you can alter the Censura script to allow the poker sites to update their own promotions, and add a content management system that allows me to add articles to the site easily. You may occasionally be asked to design a new banner for my site. As I said before, if you're lacking in the graphical design department, I can outsource this to another. This position is ongoing and won't end when the three phases are complete, although you can, of course, choose to stop working on the site anytime. I plan on coming up with more improvements along the way that I'll surely need programmed and installed. I may also ask you to spend some of your monthly hours working on other sites all together. One thing you won't have to worry about is the links section of the site. I'll be hiring a separate linkmaster that will be responsible for obtaining new link partners and keeping that section tidy. If you're interested in that position as well, it will pay $200/month and will be listed on getafreelancer.com soon (definitely sometime this month). As I said, the pay for this position will be $500 per month. The first payment will be paid through getafreelancer. $500 will be set into an escrow account for you, to be released to you at the completion of one month. Future payments can be made through getafreelancer, neteller (preferred), or paypal... your choice. Payments will be made at the end of each month, in the amount of $500. I can make payments twice a month in the amount of $250 if you would prefer. You'll be responsible for emailing me a progress report no less than once a week, detailing what you've been working on, and any difficulties you've encountered.
