Description: |
I have been updating names on a webpage over the past 6 months. My list is getting too big for html and I need to give people the ability to search more for specific names. See http://mdrenter.com/a_n.htm . I also want to give them the ability to enter their own names to my list - however, if someone else enters a name through the input form, I want the entry tagged so people know the webmaster did not enter it. The database should contain these fields: lname, fname, mi, suffix, city, date, remarks, public All fields should be in text format. PUBLIC Input of Names Page Abilities: 1. Allows users to import from an excel spreadsheet. Approximately 8 columns (see above) to import. Example is that a user will enter about 300 names into a spreadsheet and then need to dump them into the database for display in users query results. 2. Allows individual input from the general public into the database. Allows them to enter what they know about the 8 fields (see above). The fields of lname, fname, city, date need to be required. These fields can be limited in characters to keep the bots from dumping into the page. Maybe we can have one of those cute little - look at the picture and type what you see verification before the input goes into the database. That way I know a human is doing the typing. HOWEVER, I want any public entry to be “tagged” so people know the webmaster did not enter the name. The “tagged” would be automatically entered in the public column. Maybe that tag can be the letter x or something to show it was entered by the general public. It would go in the public field of the database. PUBLIC SEARCH of Database: 1. Allow the user to search on any of the columns. 2. No restriction on which combinations of columns can be searched. For instance if they want to search for all first names (fname) of “Thomas” - it will give them everyone named “Thomas” regardless of the last name. A search for fname:Thomas lname:Jones” will obviously give them a much more narrow result. Output/Report Page: 1. Table format similar to http://mdrenter.com/a_n.htm 2. Query report includes all available fields and all names available in the database - even if they only entered names 1 minute prior. I want them to see their entered name in the results. 3. The report page can viewed on screen, in table format. In the results, a record that has been entered by the general public from the PUBLIC Input of Names Page above will have a tag in the public column. 4. If they search for fname: John lname: Johns ----- I want the results to show: John Johns John Johnson John Johnston I want them to be able to enter a partial name and all the names appear that start that way. Control Panel/Admin Area (password protected): 1. I want to be able to export the entire database into a spreadsheet - clean it up and put it back on the server. 2. I will also be adding names to the data base but when coming through the control panel, I don't want them tagged with the public tag. I am using Front Page 2003 to manage the website. I am fairly familiar with html and understand how a database works. I am not familiar with SQL at all. It is that SQL (which is what I assume the format of the database will be) part that I need the help with! Basically I want the general public to be able to add names but I want those names tagged. I want them to be able to help me add to the growing list of nonpaying renters. Thanks! Landlord Joe Related Projects: This project is the proprietary information of .
