Description: |
Gathering Data From Whois What we require: Program/software to query whois database and recover a business name using an IP address. The program/software must be able to start each search using next IP address after the very last number in the block. MUST run in Linux. For example: We have the IP address 75.17.2.97, we query this through the ARIN WHOIS database (http://ws.arin.net/whois/?queryinput=75.17.2.97) and we find that the company name is GELLER PROPERTY ADV and that the last number in the block is 75.17.2.127 so we know to start the next search using the IP address 75.17.2.128. We want the output to reference GELLER PROPERTY ADV and the IP range for the customer - This is it. This should then get formatted into a .csv delimited file for later parsing. Software should take input from the command line in a format that would run something like this: ./script ip.ad.ress.ran/ge and it outputs to a file in the same directory. The script should take input with subnet mask. I am expecting this should be an easy to create script - the ability to query whois has been a mainstay of network administration for years.
