I would like a means to throttle downloads for users. I already have mod_bw installed and working so thats not what I am after :) What I would like is a script that integrates with my site that can check to see if a user is "logged in" via a .htpasswd file. This file would have usernames and passes that would be different to their phpbb username and pass. Not quite sure what the best way to handle this is... maybe we dont need any integration... If the user is logged in then their download speed is not limited. If they are not, then they are throttled to a specified value. What I am wanting to achieve is to be able to charge users to download. I can handle this via a thrid party billing company that will keep the .htpasswd file updated based on the users subscription status. Probably the best scripts to handle OS side are: http://cband.linux.pl/ and http://www.ivn.cl/apache/ (both Apache 2 compliant). Another way of doing it might be to use php to throttle how fast the file is pushed to the user. Two scripts are: http://www.phpnerds.com/article/speed-limiting-file-downloads and http://www.thescripts.com/forum/thread341922.html Should take into account IP too. So if a user is downloading then their whole bandwidth is throttled to say 50k. eg if they open up 10 files then maybe they only get 5 k per file. As opposed to downloading 10 files all at 50k.
