I'm looking to build a site exactly like topix.net.
Features Highlight:
1. Crawls selected popular news, magazine, blog sites, and stores them in DB
(I'm assuming this is the fastest way to display all the news consistently)
2. To rank relevance, use phpdig's algorithm for the topic
3. Template-Based
4. Mod-Rewrite capability
Or, crawl method 2:
Using: http://www.globalsyndication.com/rss-parser
or http://magpierss.sourceforge.net/
or http://lastrss.webdot.cz/
Use google news RSS system, store it by proper topic, and display it on site
just like Topix.net
Basically get as close to Topix.net as possible.
I'm open to suggestions as well.
