unimpressed with the moderately priced programs. I currently own two auction software packages, one is written in Perl and uses a flat file database. This software is slow to load and not particularly secure for my users tastes. The Perl interpreted code causes high server loads when more than 100 users access the software silmutaneously. This not acceptable as I would like to grow a larger site. The 2nd is written in PHP and uses MySQL backend. It is faster and more secure, but does not have all the features that I would like to offer to my users. Although I think what am looking to develop is an original auction software package that is written in PHP and MySQL for use in both Windows and *nix systems, I wanted to pose a question to experienced programmers. What is the difference in speed and power of writing a program in a compiled (C/C++)language versus a program in an interpreted language(Perl/PHP)? Please respond to this in a private message posting before placing an bids.
