Description: |
For the past 3 days I have been looking for an off-site, impartial, 3rd party organization to host our website ratings. What I've been able to find are 5 star sites that mostly concentrate on site ranking by traffic, back links, and other irrelevant stats. We are looking for something similar to eBay Feedback so that our customers can report about their experience dealing with us. When a new customer is thinking about purchasing from us, they MAY be more comfortable after reading our feedback. Hosting ones own feedback is of little benefit because it can be manufactured to say anything. I've found what I'm looking for in the eBay Feedback, Yahoo Shopping Ratings, Cnet Reviews, Epinions, and a host of other sites like them but you have to either list your products with them, or create a product feed to get rated. What I'd like is a website created with a Dreamweaver template, written in PHP with a MySQL database. On the homepage, it will: 1. List the mission of the website. (impartial ratings) 2. Present a directory that a customer can drill down to find a merchant for a type of product they are looking for and view its ratings. 3. Provide a link for merchants to find/create their profile. 4. Provide a link for a customer to find/rate a merchant. The site will be created in phases. I will create the Dreamweaver template. You will create they dynamic content pages. The first phase will include the 4 features above and: 1. The rating system will be similar to those sites listed above. 2. A merchant can create an online profile and be notified when someone leaves feedback. Place a link in the company profile for merchants to create/edit their company profile and copy their link code. Before allowing a person to save changes to a company profile, an email posted on the website will have to validate the changes. 3. The merchant can respond to feedback. 4. A small graphical icon/link that a merchant can place on their website. The icon/link will display a logo and the merchant's rating. When clicked, it will open to the merchant's profile on the site where the visitor can read reviews and post feedback. 5. Before someone posts feedback they are required to create an account and have their email validated, IP address recorded, address given compared to IP geographical region. Record other relevant data and perform other relevant identity checks. 6. When a customer posts feedback for a merchant, an email will be sent to the customers email address on file that has to be validated before the feedback becomes public. 7. Do not allow someone to leave feedback more than once for a merchant in a specified timeframe. 8. To be able to prevent (wishful thinking) merchants from giving negative feedback to their competition, do not allow vendors to post feedback. Possibly track the IP address that merchants use to create/edit their profile and then disallow them from creating a customer account. Store the time that the merchant account was created or last edited. Store the time that feedback/ratings are left. This way, times can be compared and feedback removed if fraud is suspected. 9. All relevant variables will either be stored in the database or in an includes file. All variables will be documented. 10. All code documented. Project ends here, but must plan ahead for features in phase two. Phase two: 1. The directory will be pre-populated with many of the Internets top merchants. 2. A way for a merchant to display a portion of his site feedback and ratings on his site, then a more link that opens their page on the site. 3. Find a way to distinguish between the feedback from someone who made a purchase, from someone who did not. 4. An administrator back end. 5. Use of language filter to prevent obscene language. 6. Create ways to prevent fraudulent feedback/reviews. 7. Implement tracking so that when the logo is shown on a merchant website, it is counted. Additional Info (Added 5/13/2008 at 20:39 EST)...
