Ciofs.org Web-site renewal
The web-site of the International Council of the Secular Franciscan Order
(http://www.ciofs.org) needs to be renewed in its outlook and presentation,
while basically retaining all of its present contents. The present web-site is
rather static and austere in its outlook.
The goal is to obtain an attractive web-site, modern and appealing in its
outlook, reflecting a spiritual vision of lay-people living in the world, in
ways inspired by St. Francis of Assisi. We are looking for good graphical
design, not only for the main pages, but also for the content pages, consisting
of articles, acts of international meetings, official documents, minutes,
indexes and other reference material. The re-designed pages should also
facilitate interaction among its visitors and between visitors and
administrators of the site.
For inspiration you could look at some artwork present on the ciofs.org site
(http://www.ciofs.org/ima/new.htm) and at the site http://www.ofmcap.org/. The
site http://www.csszengarden.com/ illustrates the quality of design and
flexibility we are aiming at.
The process of updating contents, adding, linking and indexing of pages on the
site should be automated as much as possible, limiting manual intervention to
utmost.
With these goals in mind, we ask you to bid for the following:
-- Re-design of the four (4) main home-pages, one for each of the four languages
used on the site, in such a way that both graphics and contents can more easily
be changed or replaced in the future.
The present pages are: http://www.ciofs.org/sfo.htm;
http://www.ciofs.org/sfs.htm; http://www.ciofs.org/ofs.htm;
http://www.ciofs.org/fssf.htm.
-- Four dynamic web-pages, one for each language, offering a guest-book and a
notice-board for posting of news or announcements by authorized persons.
-- Four pages, one for each language, to add and link new pages to the web-site
according to a standard format provided on the web-site by simple copy and paste
operations. These pages will also offer the choice to upload and link files of
different formats (pdf, doc) and pictures to the web-site.
-- One graphic lay-out for each of the following type of pages: 1. Analytical
Index; 2. Guest-books; 3. General texts; 4. Albums/Indexes of images, 5.
National Fraternity Addresses.
For the present lay-out you can click on relevant links on page
http://www.ciofs.org/sfo.htm.
Technical constraints:
-- The above-mentioned pages will be constructed using exclusively open source
or public domain software, to avoid any possible licensing problems and
limitations imposed by proprietary software.
-- The pages will be designed according to international standards (xhtml 1.0
transitional and css) and validated through the tools present on the web-site of
the World Wide Web Consortium (http://www.w3.org) and/or the Web Design Group
(http://www.htmlhelp.com/), to make sure that they are accessible to all users
worldwide.
-- The programming languages used for any dynamic page or script will be PHP
(version 4.3.8 or lower) and/or cgi/Perl (version 5.005 or lower).
-- The graphic interface of the pages will be designed using Cascading Style
Sheets, separating form from content, thus excluding any use of tables for
formatting purposes. The css code should operate across browsers and use as
much CSS1 as possible. CSS2 should be limited to widely-supported elements only.
Different browsers display differently, even completely valid CSS at times, and
we do not expect you to come up with pixel-perfect code across every platform.
The design should work in at least IE5+/Win, IE5+/Mac, Firefox, Mozilla and
Konqueror.
-- Before deciding on the final lay-out, you will be asked to provide three
different proposals, to be viewed with Firefox/Mozilla.
-- Wording and translation of any text to be included on the pages is Buyer's
responsibility.
-- Deliverables must be installed by the Seller in ready-to-run condition in the
Buyer's environment.
-- All deliverables will be considered “work made for hire” under U.S. Copyright
law. Buyer will receive exclusive and complete copyrights to all work
purchased. Please keep in mind that the web-site at present authorizes any
person to use and reproduce freely any material (text and images) it contains.
The whole web-site in the near future will be placed under the GNU General
Public License as defined on the its relevant web-page
(http://www.gnu.org/copyleft/gpl.html).
