PHP - DB Project with Member-Admin login area.

This is a project which will involve setting up a database-driven admin/worker
s login area that will automatically generate db-driven queries representing
progress in the translation and management of a multi-language website.
Introduction to the project:
This is a project that showcases the work of an international teacher and
lecturer named Prem Rawat. Since he was a small child, Prem Rawat has had the
gift of introducing people to a unique way of finding inner peace, in a world
which is increasingly chaotic and challenging as time progresses.
WordPaint.com is a volunteer-driven, not-for-profit group that is showcasing Mr
Rawat s presentations in a multiple-language format to give his message maximum
international exposure. The website features over 50 pages of excerpts, a
press-release section, site-map, and support pages, as well as randomly rotating
artwork and quotes to add to visitor interest. It is currently translated into
English, along with eight other languages in various stages of completion.
There are 5 new languages about to be added, with plans for perhaps a dozen more
as time progresses.
Currently, there is a special translator s guide for translation staff to log
into which offers job description and guidelines. But for the site manager and
for translators, there is no immediate way of seeing the translation progress of
the languages or a way to check the status of current or ongoing projects. We
also need a way of keeping a word-count updated on all parts of the translation
project to use both as a guide for translator invoicing, and as a visual
indicator of the size of different areas of the website.
There is also a lot of Javascript that governs the navigation features of the
website. Many of the site templates, including the Javascript navigational
aides, could be integrated into some kind of PHP-include system that would much
more efficiently automate the way the website is managed, and the way the
website works dynamically in switching between different language choices. I am
open to proposals and ideas on this that might involve some re-thinking of the
infra-structure of the website, to make it more adaptable to change and growth
as more languages are added. Javascript also governs the random quotes and
images appearing on the various language main-pages, so creation of a DB-driven
arrays approach for the randomization function in this case would be very
helpful.
From an administrator’s point of view, what I want to be able to do, is log into
a private admin area that will immediately give me stats on the progress of the
translation of all languages, and of all the major project sections of each
language area. Since there are both paid and volunteer workers helping with
this site, I would also need readouts and stats of payments made for each
language area, along with names and contact info for each volunteer and worker.
Each volunteer or paid helper will also have a private login which will allow
them access to all stats relevant to their own language, and limited stats for
the overall project.
From the database point of view, if we could manage and update our own database
locally, it would be convenient. Better still if we could use a simple
spreadsheet type database(s) for this type of thing. Not knowing much in this
field, the DB end of it is guesswork for me, so I am open to suggestions on it.
Whatever database system we use should be manageable at a local level; ie,
allowing myself as admin or one of my local assistants to input to the database
as work proceeds using a remote login procedure.
So, this, in a nutshell, is my vision for the project. I am interested in
working with a firm or with an individual that could design a database-driven
engine, perhaps integrated with PHP or similar scripting, that could manage the
reporting, statistics, admin & worker logins and privileges, and also
automate the arrays of features on the site that are driven by random
math/Javascript.
This is the overall concept, but may be adjusted according to cost ceilings or
according to ideas and new designs proposed by whoever we contract out to.
Thanks for any bids, offers, ideas, or proposals.
