Description: |
I have a large inventory of over 25,000 items each with an image. The images are in one large folder. There is an Excel/*.csv/*.txt sreadhseet that contains the inventory data, incuding image name & manufacturer's name. I need some way of automatically sorting the images on a local hard drive into folders based on the manufacturer's name as provided in the Excel sheet. For instance: Item 1 Manufactured by FredCo, image name FredCo1.jpg. This requires a folder called "FredCo" to be created at the desired destination & the image FredCo1.jpg moved/copied into that folder on a local hard drive. Item 2 Manufactured by BossCo, image name xyz987.jpg. This requires a folder called "BossCo" to be created at the desired destination & the image xyz987.jpg moved/copied into that folder. Item 3 Manufactured by FredCo, image name 123abco9n.jpg. This needs to be moved/copied into the existing folder called "FredCo". Item 4 Manufactured by BossCo, image name drill72a.jpg. This requires the image drill72a.jpg moved/copid into the BossCo folder.. etc etc. The prefered methods are VBA or an Excel macro. It should be easily to run, create folders when needed so that files have somewhere to go & move/copy the files. My guess is that the paths for the source files & destination for the sorted folders will be set at some stage either via a pop up entry window or a text entry in an Excel cell. However I'm open to other ways this may be done as long as the way it works is easily controled. The absolute requirements are that the file sorter be able to read the source file, such as Excel, or *.txt, *.csv etc. It should be able to create folders based on the manufacturers names & move/copy files based on that name so that all images for a given maufacturer go into the same folder. Source paths for the spreadsheet, image locations & destination for the manufacturer folders should be user set. The choice between "move" & copy" should be available & required only once if necesary (ie as in being given a choice between "Yes, Move" & "Yes Move All" & the same for the "Copy file" option), so that I don't have to click "Yes" 25,000 times. This is NOT something to move cell data around a spreadsheet, it needs to move the files on the hard drive. There is no requirement to alter the images, their names or date stamp etc. Next: This project is the proprietary information of .
