Description: |
online magazine / music DJ community . In general, the site should be run on it's own, supported by user contributions, and requiring very low-maintenance by the administrators. Design & Graphics will be provided by a designer. EXISTING SITE Website is an online magazine for female DJs, and also producers & vocalists. The site has various music info on it – reviews, articles, music, etc…..all submitted by site visitors using a basic CGI mail form and updated ‘by hand' in HTML by the administrator (which has become too much maintenance and we now need it to function on a CMS database). Currently, there is a database which creates only the following pages : DJ pages A list of DJs are sorted by area - N.America, S.America, Europe, Asia, Africa . DJs names are listed alphabetically and link to their own personal page -- DJs can register and upload their own DJ profile. Individual DJ Profile pages A user's own ‘microsite' / profile page allows them to upload their personal information and photo. This can be added/updated without permission by administrators/moderators. Anyone can upload his or her own profile page at any time. FURTHER DEVELOPMENT NEEDED: Overall, I'd like to keep the above running relatively the same as it is now but would like to add the following to the CMS for the rest of the site : Content Submissions – Articles, reviews, etc can be submitted by users by filling in a form on the site. The user can preview their submission (style sheets should be applied to the form field consistently and according to the look and feel of the pages), before they ‘submit for review'. There should also be the option to ‘preview' your submission first. Moderator Review – each submission should be submitted to a ‘waiting area' where moderators/admin can edit and allow the submission and publish it to the site. Admin reviews should occur for all content - (but does not occur for the DJ profile pages - these should continue to be updateable without permission – but admin should be able to edit/delete them at any time). DJs Database Should be listed the same as now, but perhaps instead of all on one page, each region can have it's own page -- N.America - it's own page, S.America - it's own page, Europe- it's own page….etc… Also, it will be imperative that the DJs' names will hyperlink to their profile page wherever/whenever their name occurs anywhere on the site (particularly when they submit content, i.e “Article Whatever” written by ‘dj name' – linking to their profile page). User/DJ Profile Permissions A user can edit their profile and all aspects of their account by logging in. A user can view the submissions they've made in the past. Search A search should be on every page of the site. DJs should be searchable by location, profession, genre & name. Results should always appear in the main table body of the current page. Auto-mailers Forgotten login/password mailer automatically generated and dispatched upon user request via ‘forgot details' link. ‘Thanks for adding your profile' email dispatched when a DJ adds her profile. ‘Thanks for your submission' email dispatched when a content submission is made. Admin Record Keeping I'd like to have a pretty thorough and comprehensive backend / admin area where we can keep track of DJs profiles: When a user adds a profile to the DJ pages, an email alert should be sent to the main administrator(s) so we can check that the profile is legit (this is the only area where an DJs can publish a page without permission first). Their account signup and profile information to be organised by Region, Name, email, date added and that can be easily organised by the administrator(s). A total ‘headcount' of DJs should be generated on the fly with each user profile added so that administrators know at any given time how many DJs are on the database (on the DJs pages). User Mailing List Each time a girl adds herself to the DJs database her email and account information should be added to a mailing list that we could easily access and send emails to. The mailing list should give the option of either HTML or plain text emails. There should be a way to decipher from the two lists / mail to the two lists depending on what the member's mail preferences are (HTML or plain text). At the moment, we get a lot of bounced mails b/c we send HTML formatted mailers and most of our members have blocks against that – there is currently no way to know who does and doesn't. Permissions Administrator - There should be a main administrator to set permissions across the entire site and oversee the other moderators. Administrators can add new administrators. Moderators – have the ability to moderate/edit content based on what the administrator has set their permission levels to – permissions can vary.. ADDITIONAL / HELPFUL INFO The main content areas & their format should be : Artists pages – as listed above Articles – with title & subtitle styles Interviews - – with title & subtitle styles News - – with title & subtitle styles Reviews – Separated into two subsections: (1) Music Reviews and (2) Event Reviews with title & subtitle styles Chart - data should be fed into tables with alternating coloured rows and listed by genre, then by month Calendar – automatically generated monthly calendar showing what's going on – both event listings and the DJ's gig listings that come from user submissions (example of something similar : http://www.bust.com/cgi-bin/calendarscript/calendar.pl?template=big_display.html) Mixes & Tracks – a straightforward list of (external) links to DJs' mixes and producers' tracks. Clubs – a list of clubs worldwide organised by region SITES FOR INSPIRATION http://www.thedjlist.com/ - very in-depth site, of course, but it's the usability that I'd like to mimic http://www.djpages.com/index.htm - again, a huge site, but great functionality & usability Get $20 Off Panda Internet Security 2008.
